Volunteer
Fundraiser

We are looking for enthusiastic Volunteer Fundraisers to help secure the future of Transport 17.

With rising costs and ageing vehicles, fundraising is more important than ever.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys bringing people together, planning events and turning great ideas into real impact.

You could help by:

  • Planning and leading fundraising events such as coffee mornings, quizzes, sponsored challenges or community events

  • Coordinating volunteers and supporters on the day

  • Working with local businesses, schools or community groups

  • Helping promote events through social media and local networks

  • Finding creative new ways to raise funds

We’re especially interested in people with experience in:

  • Event planning or event management

  • Community engagement or marketing

  • Fundraising, sales or partnership development

That said, enthusiasm and ideas matter just as much as experience — we’ll support you along the way.

⏱ Time commitment: Flexible – from one-off events to ongoing support

Expenses: Travel expenses reimbursed where applicable

This is a fantastic opportunity to build skills, gain experience and play a direct role in keeping our buses on the road and older people connected.

Volunteer FAQ

How old do I need to be?

You must be at least 18 years old to volunteer with Transport 17 as a driver or passenger assistant. For volunteer minibus drivers, the upper age limit is 80.

We also encourage young people aged 16–18 to get involved as fundraising volunteers. This can provide valuable experience to support university applications and contribute towards Duke of Edinburgh Award requirements.

How much time do I need to give?

As much or as little as you can. Every contribution makes a difference.

For some roles — such as minibus drivers and passenger assistants — committing to a regular day or time each week is especially helpful.

Who can volunteer?

Anyone. We believe everyone has something valuable to offer and are proud to build a volunteer team that reflects the diversity of our local community.

Have some spare time? Support our fundraising events.

Retired? Share your experience, meet new people, and enjoy a sense of purpose and routine.

A student? Gain valuable experience to support your future career.

Looking to build confidence before returning to work? Volunteering can help and should not affect any benefits you receive.

How do I find out about current roles?

All current opportunities are advertised on our website, in local publications, and on community noticeboards.

If you do not see a role that suits you, we would still welcome your enquiry. Our Operations Manager or Volunteer Co-ordinator can discuss available opportunities and help match you to a suitable role.

Do I need previous experience?

No previous experience is required — simply a positive, reliable approach and a willingness to work within our values. We will provide all necessary training.

What training will I receive?

All volunteers receive on-the-job training, along with essential training to ensure you feel confident and safe in your role.

Some roles require additional accredited training, including:
MIDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme)
PATS (Passenger Assistant Training Scheme)
Transport 17 covers the full cost of all required training.

Do you reimburse expenses?

Yes. We reimburse public transport costs in full and pay car mileage for volunteers who choose to claim it.

How do I apply?

You can apply through our website or contact us directly to request an application form. We will guide you through the next steps and arrange an informal discussion.

Will I need to provide references?

Yes. Depending on the role, we usually request one or two references to help ensure a safe and supportive environment for everyone.

Do you offer corporate volunteering?

Yes, we welcome corporate and team volunteering. Please contact us to discuss how your organisation can support Transport 17 through volunteering, fundraising, or partnership opportunities.
