Did you know that Transport 17:
…was set up in 1983 by a group of local volunteers led by Alan Jockel as they could see how many people would benefit from an accessible transport service
…has had eleven different buses since the first one went into service in June 1984, each with tail lifts for wheelchairs
…has been based in the office on Baslow Road since 1990
…started with one minibus and now runs three
…bought its first bus for £10,000 and its most recent bus for £50,000
…is registered as an Industrial and Provident Society with charitable status whose shareholders join for £1.
Michael Finn was the paid project manager for Transport 17 for 30 years until April 2020, working closely with John Savournin who was the Administrative Assistant for 20 years. John was also the Treasurer on the Management Committee for many years. They both kept Transport 17 going through some tricky periods for which the local community will always be grateful.
